If you are on a Vodafone plan and want the calls you miss to go somewhere useful instead of voicemail, you need three standard divert codes, keyed into your phone like a phone number. On Vodafone the order matters more than anywhere else, because Vodafone's voicemail codes reset your diverts.
One thing first: Vodafone prepaid can't divert calls to another number, only to voicemail or Call Catcher. That is Vodafone's rule, from its call forwarding page. If you are on Vodafone prepaid, the codes below won't work for you; see the last section.
This guide is written for BizEdge Missed-Call Text-Back, where the calls you miss go to your BizEdge number and the caller gets a text from you within seconds. For every carrier in one place, see the full set-up guide.
Do it in this order
Voicemail off first, then the three codes, then a test call. On Vodafone this is not optional: dialling 1210 or 1211 rewrites your diverts, so anything you set before them is gone.
Step 1: switch voicemail and Call Catcher off
- Dial
1210to turn voicemail off. That turns Call Catcher on. - Dial
121600to turn Call Catcher off.
With both off, unanswered calls ring out and the divert takes them. Two things to know first: with voicemail off, nobody can leave you a message, family included. And on a work phone, check with whoever manages the account.
If you turn voicemail back on later with 1211, that resets your diverts too. Key the three codes in again afterwards and redo the test.
On an iPhone, also turn Live Voicemail off (Settings, Phone, Live Voicemail), so the handset doesn't answer the call itself.
Step 2: the three codes
Key each one into the phone app exactly as written and press call. Your phone shows a short confirmation for each. Write your BizEdge number without spaces and with the leading zero.
- When you don't pick up (this is the one that matters):
**61*<your BizEdge number>**10# - When your phone is off or out of range:
**62*<your BizEdge number># - When you're already on a call:
**67*<your BizEdge number>#
Your BizEdge setup page and setup email show these with your number already filled in.
Why 10 seconds
The 10 in the first code is how long your phone rings before the divert fires. Vodafone voicemail answers at 15 seconds, and a divert only catches the call if it fires first. Vodafone's own page doesn't publish ring times, but on the Vodafone network 10 seconds is a documented setting: Kogan Mobile, which runs on Vodafone, lists 5 to 25 seconds.
We tested the race on a Telstra mobile with twelve calls in a row: 5 and 10 seconds won, 15 tied with voicemail and lost, 20 and 25 lost every time. With voicemail and Call Catcher both off there is no race, but 10 is still the safe setting.
Step 3: the test call
Ring your own mobile from another phone and let it ring out. Do not pick up, do not decline. Within seconds the other phone should get your text, and the call shows up in your Text-Back Inbox.
If voicemail or Call Catcher answered instead:
- Dial
*#61#and check it forwards to your BizEdge number with a 10-second delay. - If not, dial
1210, then121600, then key all three codes in again, in that order, and test again.
What it costs on Vodafone
On a Vodafone plan, Vodafone says there is no extra charge for call forwarding in Australia. On BizEdge's side, billing never starts until a real missed call has been texted back.
Checking and switching it off
*#61#shows where your unanswered calls go and the delay.##002#cancels every divert at once. If you switched voicemail off in step 1, dial1211to switch it back on.
On Vodafone prepaid?
Vodafone prepaid can't divert calls to another number, so BizEdge can't catch your missed calls while you're on prepaid. Moving to a Vodafone plan fixes it, or contact us at hello@bizedge.com.au and we'll work through it with you. Billing never starts if no call is texted back, so you would pay nothing in the meantime.
Some smaller brands on Vodafone's network follow the same rule, or may: Lebara and Lycamobile among them. felix and Kogan Mobile have quirks of their own. All covered in prepaid and budget brands: which ones can divert. On Telstra or Optus? See the Telstra guide or the Optus guide.
